Who is Lontarz Lin?

“I’ve just completed my 2 year course of Game Development and I’m probably a 3D artist or Game developer. A Few years ago, I was actually thinking of studying engineering, but a game has inspired me to change my decision. Now I think this is best decision I’ve ever made, because now I love to do what I am doing now.”

Creativity and art journey

“If you could only show us one project of yours, to describe what you do, which one would it be and why?”

“Hmmm… I guess it is the blue eyes fanart, because it is a personal project which is doing what I enjoy the most.”

“What’s the earliest art project you were proud of?”

“I think the most enjoyable one is a A2 size mix media piece. It’s about drawing a theme of Malaysia culture related illustration. I remember I used ink to draw the line slowly and I was pretty happy with the outcome.”

“What art pieces (from other artists) blow you away and what specifically do you like about them?.”

“Takeya Takayuki’s art I think. I know this artist from garo(tv series) related searching in google. His style, I love it! The outcome as well is just so impressive.”

“Enjoy others artwork more or watch some movies.”

“Before you start a project, what feelings or thoughts are going through your head?”

“I feel like looking forward to see what the outcome looks like.”

“At what point in a project do you struggle the most?”

“Staying motivated and not slowing down.”

“Do you have any advice on breaking out of your artistic comfort zone?”

“Try more different stuff!”

Remembering an artist’s name shows that you care. It’s not all about the artwork, but also who created it! If you could ask Lontarz Lin any question, which one would it be? Post it in the comments down below!

  • Thanks Lin! I’m glad a game changed your decision from engineering to game dev, because your projects are awesome!

  • A couple of extra questions:

Do you remember the games which made you decide to pursue game dev?
What other games do you play?
Are you planning on doing any more fanart like your blue eyes? If so which ones are you planning to do?

    • (Replying on behalf of Lin)

“The interest built up from those old school games I enjoyed. At the time I was making the choice, games that inspired me were .hack series and okami.

The games I played are mostly from ps1 and ps2, after my secondary school life I rarely got any time to explore new games. The games I enjoyed were Final Fantasy 7, Legend of Dragoon, Digimon world 3, Yu-Gi-Oh forbidden memories, Monster Rancher 2, Brigandine and more…

Yes, I do like to do more fanart like red eyes black dragon. Hard to say which to come first because depends on the idea I have sometimes.”
