Concept Artist and Illustrator
Who is Max Schiller?
“Hi, my name is Max and I am a freelance Concept Artist based in Germany. I’ve been working in the industry for about 3 years now and I’m designing worlds, environments, props, and much more for videogames and movies. This is a dream that came true since I was always the kind of child that drew and painted while others did their homework!”
“Throughout your life, what kind of support did you have from the people around you when it comes to your artistic developments?”
“I was always encouraged to draw and paint, but just as a hobby. When I decided to take it seriously and started to try to make a career out of it, everybody wanted me to stop and learn something normal (my parents :D).
Once I started to earn money and was able to finance my life myself, everybody started to realize that there is a career in our field! Now, everyone is super proud, which makes me super proud!”
“What aspect of your art do you want people to remember you for?”
“Is there something you wish you had done differently leading up to where you are now?”
“There isn’t much, but I have to say I was a very lazy person! Start soon, and work hard! I’ve realized that way too late!”
“If your friends or co-workers were here, what would they tell me about you?”
“That I’m a cheater, because I’m using every possible software and technique to get to the finish line. :D”
“If you could have a video of any event in your life, which one would you choose?”
“The birth of my child!”
“What does the process of coming up with new ideas look like for you?”
“I always have a notebook with me. When I have an idea, no matter how silly it sounds, I write it down. Same with scribbles. Just filling this book keeps me thinking creatively, and sometimes not so bad ideas will accrue and on those, I will start working!”
“Before you start a project, what feelings or thoughts are going through your head?”
“I’m always super excited because my head is full of ideas that I want to try out already. The best thing for me is to start a completely new blank project. So many creative possibilities!”
Remembering an artist’s name shows that you care. It’s not all about the artwork, but also who created it! If you could ask Max Schiller any question, which one would it be? Post it in the comments down below!
